Even with the significant use of VHS videotape on our campus, 16mm film is still an available medium. The NMC media collection contains nearly 2,000 films, and although many of these films are old, they contain vital instructional content. These units are available for delivery to your classroom or conference room. 16mm Projectors are always delivered with A/V Carts. If you have reserved a 16mm film from the NMC media collection, your film(s) must be picked up from the NMC. Optical sound head: 50 to 7,000 Hz +/- 3 decibels. Magnetic sound head: 50 to 10,000 Hz +/- 3 decibels. 15 Watt, seven-tube amplifier; Separate controls for treble, bass and volume. OTHER FEATURES: Automatic frame counter; Two or three blade shutter switch; Built-in illuminated stroboscope for precise setting of 18 and 24fps; Height and level adjustments can be made on all four feet; A table lamp can be attached which switches off when the projector is running and relights again when stopped. 16mm film projection may be scheduled for a classroom by contacting Media Technology Services a minimum of one week in advance. McCook Auditorium is the best classroom venue for 16mm screening. A technician is necessary for setup and operation, making advance booking mandatory. Once your project has been fully edited, we use a DVD authoring program to “burn” your presentation onto a DVD that you can play in your DVD player at home. We typically use the DVD-R format. Please ensure your DVD player at home will play this format. A decade ago film transfers were almost always transferred to VHS tape, (often wrongly called "VCR" tape). For those wanting a VHS tape to play on their VCR, the MiniDV tape is used to produce a high quality VHS original. If you prefer to make your own DVDs we will provide the tape master to you in MiniDV tape format, as this will keep the transfer process digital throughout and assure the highest image quality. Old film tends to be very brittle, and the less it is handled the better. Since it has been tightly rolled on its spool, very little dust or dirt will have found its way onto the film surface. Typically the film is transferred "as is" but we will clean the film if necessary. On large spools of film, if splices separate or break during transfer the film is re-spliced so that the transfer may continue. |
